Our Whole Lives (OWL)

The OWL program is a comprehensive, life-spanning sexual health education curriculum. The program was founded within the denomination of the Uniterian Universalist Association as the United Church of Christ and Church of Christ came together to build the program.

The goal is to provide resources on options and empower an individual in their choices when it comes to making decisions for one’s own sexual health, emphasizing that abstinence is an option in a wide array of options.

The sex education curriculum is designed to be age-appropriate, serving learners from kindergarten through adulthood. Curriculum length and content vary by age group; for instance, students in grades 7–9 participate in a year-long program, while those in kindergarten through grade 6 complete six lessons. The curriculum is entirely secular, with optional faith-based companion materials available for interested participants.

OWL emphasizes themes of responsibility, justice and inclusion, sexual health, and self-respect.

Reverend Sara Green

Rev. Sara is a southern, cis/queer/poly Black femme minister living in New Orleans. She imagines liberation/salvation/beloved community as communities that have the ability to eat good food together, experience pleasure in our bodies and regularly put their hands in soil—all the while free from fear and violence by way of all of the cultural and legal changes that must happen in order for this world to exist. She understands herself as part of a legacy of cultural workers, healers, maroons and creoles, southern queer freedom fighters and artists trying to shape god.

NOLA OWL

Rev. Green has coordinated OWL facilitator trainings for prospective instructors at First Grace United Methodist Church and has been instrumental in integrating the OWL curriculum into the church’s educational programming and student initiatives.

OWL Sex Education Sessions

  • Parental waiver and orientation guarenteed to ensure a learning environment founded in confidentiality and trust

  • Panel included a therapist, pediatrician, and community member so that students had access to experts and could ask any and all questions they had
