About

The SHER Lab had the opportunity to host a conversation on the challenges and possibilities of restorative justice processes as a response to sexual violence on college campuses and beyond, with 5 experts working in the sexual and domestic violence prevention and advocacy field.

This panel brought together community leaders to explore resolutions that center truth-telling, accountability, and healing.

Our Goals

  1. To continue to build and strengthen community collaboration between the Tulane and the wider New Orleans community through dialogue and mutual learning

  2. To bring awareness to the foundations of restorative justice for sexual violence

Event Outcomes

Based off pre- and post-event evaluation surveys…

41 attendees

46% increase in knowledge of restorative justice practices

77% increase in knowledge of community organizations in New Orleans

Panelist Lessinger

“The two vital components of successful restorative justice: it has to be confidential and voluntary. Legal processes can make this unattainable.”

Panelist Tarnowsky

“Current justice-seeking processes do not address root causes of violence: power and control.”
